Kats Dazzle in 66-7 Victory Over Surrey Beavers
by Martin Pierce
Savoring the last rays of sun before the coming fall rains, the Kats prepared for the most important game of the Year... Alumni Day. With victories this year over Capilano and Scribes, the legends of the club were excited to see for themselves what the team this year was all about.
Under the watchful eye of the Alumni the game started hard fought, with waves of sustained attack from the Kats penetrating into Surrey's half. For the first time this year, the Kats scrum overtook Surrey allowing a steady platform for the backs. Quickly the Kats forwards drove over the try line for the first score of the game. A slightly slick ball from the wet ground resulted in numerous knock-ons in the first half, wearing down the Surrey tight 5. Coming to a close on the half, the Kats lead Surrey 4 tries to 1.
In the second half the Kats could do no wrong. Having gained the confidence of the early lead forwards and backs alike were making amazing plays In open space fantastic supporting lines allowed for successive offloads and tight passing which opened up the field for some truly amazing tries.
At the closing whistle there was no doubt in the Alumni's mind that this year, the Kats were something special.
At the end of the game, both teams gathered in the Greenhouse to listen to Bob Parry speak of the Kats history and excitement going forward.
