Western Canadian U18 Sevens - February 17 & 18

Rugby Alberta To Host Western Canadian 7s Championship for U18: BC Teams Listed

BC is sending a men's and women's U18 team to take part in the indoor Western 7s championship. The men's team is a TORA (Thomson Okanagan Rugby Alliance) regional team, I suppose it's the closest to the Edmonton location and with sufficient talent to be competitive. The women's side looks more diversely represented with a large Fraser Valley contingent and a few Island players added in the mix.

The women's division should be more competitive simply because the Rugby Canada Academy team are entered and one would expect them to be the class of the competition. There's no men's Rugby Canada Academy team unfortunately and that's something that needs to be addressed.

There's also word there won't be a National 7s for U18 this year at the Canada 7s in March as has been the case in the past. Many Canadian U18 players will be joining academy teams at the Tropical 7s April 19-20 in Orlando, Florida: Celtic Barbarians, Upright Rugby, Canadian Misfits some of the Canadian academy teams entered. The Vancouver Invitational will have a U18 bracket but besides BC it's not clear if any other provinces are entering teams. Alberta likely will send regional teams from Edmonton and Calgary, we're still waiting for the BCRU to post the team lists since registration is now closed.
