Readers Vote - CDI Premier Mens Top 15 Players SEND TO FACEBOOK

Caps - Jason Marshall

The readers have spoken

So here goes... I have named the top 15 players of the CDI premier competition voted for by our readers.

I’ve added comments about players that I have either played against or seen play.

Thanks to everyone who voted. We had well over 40 votes from readers representing many different clubs.

CDI BC Premier XV

1 Andrew Tiederman - UVic

2 Mike Pletch – Velox
This was a close one. It was down to the wire between Pletch and Ryan Hamilton (UVic). Canada seems to produce a great number of good hookers and these two guys plus Pat Riordan, are good examples of this.

3 Jason Marshall - Capilano
Marshall was by far the most popular forward amongst the voters. A versatile player who can play prop or number 8. Fantastic runner with ball in hand, who has run over a lot of players this year. As far as an athlete goes, this guy is the total package and with a few more rugby smarts that will come with experience, he could be a good international player.

4 Bruce Railde - Bayside

5 Eric Forsythe - JBAA

6 Dave Biddle - Meralomas

7 Neil Meechan - Uvic
Meechan is by far the best and most complete openside flanker in Canada. He's a great athlete who loves to run, fend and distribute, and is also a menace at the break down. I hope that his representative duties are furthered in the 15s game.

8 Nolan Ott - Velox
To be honest Jason Marshall could have been named twice in this team at prop and #8 with the amount of votes he got. But Nolan Ott is a real contender at the #8 position. He’s had limited time in the CDI competition this season but has impressed with his intensity and 'mongrel' as we say in NZ. Look out for this guy in the playoffs to make a real impact.

9 Spencer Dalziel - JBAA
The most popular vote by a mile. Its hard to find a scrum half that makes the right decisions 95% of the time and doesnt make mistakes. But Dalziel makes it look easy.

10 Harry Jones - UBC
Flyhalf is a real worry for Canada at the moment, with noone really grabbing the national #10 jersey with both hands. Jones does shine at flyhalf for UBC, playing the role of a one-man-band in a team struggling to be competitive in this division. Jones is a real talent who is very strong in most aspects of his play. I think he’d be the first one to admit he is going to be a fullback when he becomes a member of a complete side.

11 Spencer Baker – Caps
Why is this guy not a regular in the sevens squad??? Please someone give me an answer. He lights up every team he comes up against. He is the fittest and fastest player in this competition and needs or should I say deserves a lot more recognition at higher honours.

12 Dan White – Velox
Big hitting, hard running and a great distributor. What more do you need from an inside centre? Hopefully his form this season has changed a few opinions of him.

13 Sam Jenkins - Meralomas

14 Brodie Henderson – Bayside

15 DTH van der Merwe
DTH is again in impressive form, being the difference between JBAA and Bayside last weekend. He’s also added another string to his bow - his kicking game is outstanding.

We want to hear from you the readers

With playoffs approaching we want readers to send in their best 15 players of the CDI Premier mens competition. Choose players from any team you like and let us know who you think are the in-form players in BC.

Send your teams labeled 1 to 15 with a short sentence on why you think each player is the best in their position to aaron@bcrugbynews.com.

With NA8 and Canada squad selections coming up, lets see who the rugby public think should be making these squads.

We will tally the votes and name the team in our quarter final preview story later this week.
